Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

A common cause of Carpel Tunnel Syndrome is improper posture while using a computer. In today’s workaholic society, getting the job done sometimes takes precedent over individual health. Many computer, driving, and sports-related jobs and activities require repetitive motion, lifting, turning, and other bodily use and abuse.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a painful progressive condition caused by compression of a key nerve in the wrist. It occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist. Symptoms usually start gradually, with pain, weakness, or numbness in the hand and wrist, radiating up the arm.  As symptoms worsen, people might feel tingling during the day, and decreased grip strength may make it difficult to form a fist, grasp small objects, or perform other manual tasks. In some cases no direct cause of the syndrome can be identified.   In others the disorder is due to a congenital predisposition - the carpal tunnel is simply smaller in some people than in others. However, the risk of developing carpal tunnel syndrome is especially common in people performing any activity that involves the repetitive use of their forearms and wrists.

What can you do about it?
We treat Carpel Tunnel SyndromeAt Active Life Wellness & Healthcare Center our comprehensive treatments include checking for any nerve interference from the spine or shoulder, as well as addressing postural awareness with our patients which can cause a direct effect on the brachial plexus (an arrangement of nerve fibers running from the spine, through the neck, and into the arm) that can interfere with the function of the median nerve. We also work directly on the tendons and muscles of the forearm and hand, releasing adhesions that reduce pressure on the median nerve as well as allowing the median nerve to glide back into place. Read more about the Graston Technique® which we employ with remarkable results in the treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. We use a state of the art Cold Laser, which is FDA approved for the treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, in order to reduce immediate swelling and pain.  The laser is pain-free and has zero negative side effects.  We also offer therapeutic exercises and stretching techniques to help you keep the results that you achieve.

Usually, if you go to another practitioner, you may get one or two of these services, but we have them available at the same location, in order to provide you convenient, lasting results and an education on how to prevent further problems. Recurrence of carpal tunnel syndrome following our treatment is very rare, and the majority of patients recover completely. Contact us today for a free consultation.
